PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material exhibiting alleviated mating surface attack both under a heavy load and under a light load. SOLUTION: The friction material is obtained by molding and curing a friction material composition containing a fibrous base material, a bonding agent and a filler and contains 5.5-17.5 volume% of not less than three kinds of substances each having different melting temperature selected from tin, tin alloys and tin compounds.
