The present invention concerns a method for allowing a portable object to work in different interface configurations, the portable object being provided with at least storage means and connectors able to connect said portable object with at least an object accepting device. Assigning different interface functions and/or different connection characteristics for a determined connection to at least one of said connectors is done by multiplexing means depending on the type of portable object accepting device(s) with which the portable object is connected. <IMAGE>
