PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission in which information on the operation of a brake pedal by a driver inputted is properly used as information on gear shift down without selecting a shift gear according to a vehicle speed (or engine rotational speed) and the depressed amount of an acceleration pedal. SOLUTION: The engine rotational speed and the depressed amount of the brake pedal are taken in as input two-dimensional information, a control map is set for the two-dimensional information, and a gear shift down is performed according to the control map.
