PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically perform the focusing of an image projected to a screen in a projector and to automatically adjust trapezoidal distortion caused on the image projected to the screen due to the relative inclination of the screen. SOLUTION: The projector (2) includes a projection lens optical system (8) projecting the image on the screen (1), an automatic focus detector (20) receiving the image projected to the screen so as to detect the focusing position of the image projected thereto while moving the optical system (8) and measuring a spot where the high frequency component of the image becomes maximum, and an angle detector (5) including line sensors (31c and 31d) for correcting the trapezoidal distortion of the image projected to the screen.
