PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for cooling a hot dip metal coating bath in which the area required for the cooling can be saved, vapor explosion during the cooling is prevented, and the operation is safely performed in the device for cooling the hot dip metal coating bath by dipping a cooling pipe in the hot dip metal coating bath to perform hot dip metal coating on a surface of a steel strip. SOLUTION: In the device and the method for cooling the hot dip metal coating bath in which the hot dip metal coating bath is cooled by dipping a cooling pipe in the hot dip metal coating bath to perform hot dip metal coating on the surface of the steel strip, and the cooling pipe to be dipped in the hot dip metal coating bath is formed of a double tube comprising an inner cooling pipe and an outer cooling pipe.
