PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suspension for a vascular embolus having a highly water absorbing resin particle controlling the particle diameter of the highly water absorbing resin particle and having suitable swellability without shrinking the highly water absorbing resin particle when intravascularly injected and to provide a method for producing the suspension. SOLUTION: The suspension for the vascular embolus comprises the highly water absorbing resin particle suspended in a nonionic contrast medium. In the suspension, a salt of a monovalent cation (NaCl or KCl) is contained and the size of the average particle diameter of the highly water absorbing resin particle is controlled by the concentration of the salt of the monovalent cation. The concentration of the salt of the monovalent cation is preferably 0.20-5.0 wt.%, more preferably 0.20-1.0 wt.%. As a result, the average particle diameter of the highly water absorbing resin particle after swelling is swelled to 2-4 times of the average particle diameter before swelling.
