Authorisation document issuing system for e.g. passports, compares biometric information stored on document chip with actual recorded biometric information

A device (22) for recording biometric information relating to the document owner is connected to a computer (10). The document (6) has a chip (5) with a microprocessor (34) and memory (36) for storing the biometric information. This information is sent along with the personal information and a unique application form number via a network (24). Once the document has been produced, a chip reader (16) is used to read the chip in order to obtain the biometric information and the document owner is once again asked to record their biometric information, which is compared with the information on the chip before issuing the document. The document has a photo of the owner. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing an authorisation document comprising the following steps: (a) sending information from an application form with a unique number to a server (28); (b) sending personal information associated with a unique number to the server via a network; (c) sending encrypted biometric information relating to the document owner to the server via the network and later sending this information to a chip writing unit (32); (d) linking the application form and personal information in order to generate linked information; and (e) sending the linked information from the server to a printing installation (30).
