Coupling element comprising a first shell and a second shell having first and second clamping surfaces for engaging a pipe, rod or a similar elongated element on both sides, wherein the first shell has a first end and a second end and the second shell has a first end and a second end, wherein the first end of the first shell is hinged to the first end of the second shell, and a locking element for locking the second end of the first shell and the second end of the second shell with respect to each other, wherein the locking element comprises a first locking member and a second locking member, wherein the first locking member and the second locking member are coupled by means of a springy element, and wherein the first locking member is hinged to the first shell, and wherein the second locking member has an engagement surface for coupling to an engagement surface on the second shell.
