PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photochromic compound having high developed color density, high fading speed, high durability and high solubility in monomer, etc. SOLUTION: The compound has a chromene skeleton having a substituted univalent organic group containing a hetero-ring containing≥3 atoms selected from O, N and S such as 12-crown-4-ether. At least one kind of ring selected from substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring, substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic hydrocarbon group which may have condensed aromatic ring, and substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group is condensed to the f-side and/or h-side of the chromene ring of the chromene skeleton.
