[Also in Division B3] A slotting tool comprises a reciprocating ram with a cutting tool 22 which co-operates with two main lower-blades during its normal stroke and with a transverse lower blade when the position of the tool relative to the ram is altered by a manual lever 19 to cut the chip. The cutting tool is threadedly mounted in a sleeve 6 rotatably mounted on the ram. The sleeve has external teeth 17 engaging through gearing 30 with the shaft 24 on which the lever 19 is mounted. The tool is held against rotation by a guide 21 so that rotation of the sleeve 6 by the lever 19 causes linear vertical movement of the tool. Normally the tool is raised relative to the ram and is operated with the two main lower blades to slot the plate on each stroke but when it is lowered relative to the ram it co-operates with the transverse blade to sever the chip. The lever is spring urged on to the shaft 24 but can be disengaged to vary the adjustment. The ram is reciprocated by eccentric means 1 through a connecting rod 2.</p> |
