PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-frequency lighting device and an illumination device capable of alarming abnormal lighting state of a discharge lamp in a simple structure. SOLUTION: The device is provided with an inverter circuit 5 converting an alternate current voltage to a high-frequency voltage and biasing the discharge lamp 9 with the high-frequency voltage, a control circuit 6 controlling the inverter circuit 5 so that the discharge lamp 9 is controlled in lighting according to light control signals from a light control device inputted through light-control signal lines 10, 10, and a lighting state detecting means 7 structured so as to short-circuit between light control signal input parts 4, 4 when the discharge lamp 9 is lighted in abnormal state.
