<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal orientation film capable of stably and surely orienting a liquid crystal molecule in a direction different from the rubbing direction and having high heat-resistance and provide an optical element produced by using the orientation film. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal orientation film contains a polymer at least containing the repeating unit expressed by general formula (1) [X is group of >C=O or >SO<SB>2</SB>; R<SP>1</SP>is H, a halogen atom or a 1-6C alkyl; R<SP>2</SP>is group of general formula (2), (3), (4), (5) or (6) (R<SP>3</SP>to R<SP>10</SP>are each independently H, an alkyl, an alkoxy, a halogen, carboxy, hydroxy, amino, sulfo, an aryl or an aryloxy provided that R<SP>3</SP>to R<SP>6</SP>in general formula (2) at least contains one or more groups selected from an alkoxy, carboxy, hydroxy, amino, sulfo and aryloxy when X is a group of >C=O)]. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
