A floating tool holder for a reamer 18 com. prises a chuck body 3, movable in a transverse direction on a driving plate 4, the latter being transversely movable at 90 degrees to this direction, on a body 2. Body 3, having a split collet 6 therein has a square portion 33 which passes through an aperture 20 in plate 4, and into an aperture 21 in body 2. Lugs 23 and 41 on body 3 and plate 4 respectively co-operate with keyways 25 and 42, in plate 4 and body 2. Two sets of rollers 30, 35 are arranged between the lugs and keyways so as to reduce friction between the members, to take up axial thrust on the tool, and also to transmit torque. Body 3 is automatically centred when the tool is unloaded, by a spring-pressed ball 67. |
