PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a seam look more beautiful in an electronic zigzag stitch sewing machine for storing a unit pattern to form a seam by stably stopping a needle at a desired needle point of the unit pattern when a pedal of the sewing machine is neutrally operated. SOLUTION: The electronic zigzag stitch sewing machine comprises a needle swing mechanism capable of moving the needle 3 to be moved upward/downward by a main motor 1 to an arbitrary position for the needle to swing in the direction orthogonally crossing the direction of feeding a fabric to be processed and a memory 26 for storing the needle swing data on the unit pattern. The electronic zigzag stitch sewing machine also has a control panel 1 for setting an arbitrary needle point in the unit pattern as a needle stop point, and a control device 21 for controlling the main motor 1 and the needle swing mechanism to automatically form a seam to the needle point set by the control panel 10 and to stop the main motor 1 when the pedal is neutrally operated while the main motor 1 is rotated.
