PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bookbinding device, in which fine adjustment of a cover setting part to follow the change of the size of a cover or the like can be efficiently performed. SOLUTION: In this bookbinding device, under the condition that a paper feeding command for preparatory paper feeding is inputted, paper feeding is performed at a normal speed, which is the same speed as that during bookbinding, when a cover remains closed, while paper feeding is performed at a speed lower than the normal speed when the cover is in an open state (as indicated in the steps ranging from S10 to S40). As a result, no successive opening and closing works of the cover is necessary at every preparatory paper feeding and the working efficiency of bookbinding improves. On the other hand, since the feeding of the cover is performed at the same normal speed as that during bookbinding under the condition that the cover is closed even for preparatory paper feeding, in this case, the paper feeding process can be performed quickly.
