ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE-ELECTRODE JUNCTION FOR POLYMER ELECTROLYTE FUEL CELL, AND POLYMER ELECTROLYTE FUEL CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte fuel cell which is scarcely deteriorated in cell performance even when operated for a long period, and an electrolyte membrane-electrode junction capable of configuring such solid polymer fuel cell.

SOLUTION: In the electrolyte membrane-electrode junction for solid polymer electrode comprising a fuel electrode to which a fuel gas containing hydrogen is supplied; an oxygen electrode to which an oxidant gas containing oxygen is supplied; an electrolyte membrane held between the fuel electrode and the oxygen electrode, a cerium containing oxide is contained into the oxygen electrode and the polymer electrolyte fuel cell is composed of such junction. The cerium containing oxide serves as a catalyst oxidizing and decomposing hydrogen peroxide.
