PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forming method for a primary transfer image in an intermediate transfer system which can improve a positioning precision of reverse images of each ink color and can improve the printing quality, and to provide an intermediate transfer device. SOLUTION: Reference marks 23B and 23A are formed at the upstream side and the downstream side in a forward transfer direction of an intermediate transfer film 10. At the same time, a reference length between the two reference marks is stored. At the time of transferring the reverse image of an ink color to be transferred first of an ink film 6, the two reference marks 23B and 23A are recognized by a sensor 18 set at the upstream side or downstream side in the forward transfer direction of the intermediate transfer film 10. A length between the two reference marks 23B and 23A after the reverse image of the ink color to be transferred first is transferred is measured by a control part 19, and a difference from the reference length is obtained. On the basis of this difference, an excitation timing of a thermal head 3 at the time of transferring the reverse images of the ink colors to be transferred next and afterwards is corrected and controlled.
