<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photo- or thermally polymerizable composition having satisfactory high sensitivity, high resolution (large difference in the developability between an exposed part and an unexposed part), and high printing durability, and suitable for a lithographic printing original plate which can make direct platemaking possible from digital data of a computer or the like, in particular, by recording by using a solid laser or a semiconductor laser emitting UV light, visible light, and IR light, and to provide a lithographic printing plate which uses the above composition. <P>SOLUTION: The photo- or thermally polymerizable composition contains an alkali-soluble polymer having an alkali hydrolyzable group in the side chain. Preferably, it contains an alkali-soluble polymer having a structure of general formula (I) in the side chain. The polymerizable composition is preferably incorporated into the photosensitive layer of a lithographic printing plate having a photosensitive layer on a supporting body.
