PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sanitary tatami mat excellent in economy, which hardly imposes a load on an environment. SOLUTION: This tatami mat comprises: a tatami core 11 which partially uses shell flower boards 2a and 2b with a specific gravity of 0.2-0.4, wherein a formalin-free adhesive is added to and mixed into a fiber raw material mainly composed of shell-flower fibrillated fibers obtained by fibrillating a stalk and/or a leaf of a shell flower, so that the fibers can be molded in a board shape; a tatami facing 12 which is arranged on the top surface side of the tatami core 11; and a back sheet 13 which is arranged on the undersurface side of the tatami core 11. A core material, which is formed from a resin such as expanded polystyrene, is used as a core material which constitutes the tatami core, and the shell flower boards are arranged on both the sides of the core material. The tatami core is substantially formed of at least one shell flower board. A structure of the tatami core is constituted as a laminated structure wherein a wastepaper board and the shell flower board are combined together. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
