PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve roughness of an image on a display screen. SOLUTION: In a display device using a spatial light modulation element which allows an image to be written therein and to be converted and read out therefrom, the spatial light modulation element has a color separation means for separating white light into respective colors, on the write side, and the image is colorized through the color separation means when written and read. The display device provided with the spatial light modulation element allowing the image to be written therein and read therefrom, a write means for successively writing the image per pixel, and an optical system for imaging light from the write means has a plurality of reflection means which keep an optical path length for write approximately fixed when writing the image in the spatial light modulation element.
