PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more securely remove soil such as paper dust or toner from the surface of a fixing roller and the surface of a pressing roller. SOLUTION: A recording medium is fed by rotating a fixing roller 32 for about sixty seconds while the surface temperature of the fixing roller 32 is maintained at a toner transition temperature T2. On a photoreceptor drum 12, a cleaning electrostatic latent image is formed and developed to form a developed image for cleaning. The developed image for cleaning is used as cleaning toner to be transferred to the fixing roller 32. The cleaning toner is transferred to the recording medium as the recording medium passes a transfer roller 18. Then, the cleaning toner is transferred to the fixing roller 32 as the recording medium is transported while being held in a nip between the fixing roller 32 and a pressure roller 34. Thereafter, the surface temperature of the fixing roller 32 is raised to the cleaning temperature T3, and rotation of the fixing roller 32 is started again. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
