PURPOSE: An elevator system and a control method thereof are provided to increase the transfer capacity of the elevator system, to prevent cars from interrupting each other, and to prevent the cars from colliding with each other by an anti-collision device. CONSTITUTION: An elevator system(10) is composed of at least one shaft(12) for moving up and down at least two cars(14,16) of which one is put on another and a safety device for cutting off the movement of cars in opening shaft doors(44) or car doors(34,39). The shaft has a plurality of the shaft doors and the car has at least one car door. The safety device has two independent safety circuits(37,42) having at least one shaft door and/or car doors. The movement of at least one car is prevented by the safety circuits. The shaft doors of the shaft have at least one shaft area connected with only one safety circuit.
