PURPOSE: A method for driving a plasma display panel and an apparatus for the same are provided to drive the plasma display panel at high speed by generating the setup discharge as a dark discharge during the reset period. CONSTITUTION: A method for driving a plasma display panel includes the steps of: supplying the setup voltage to the scan electrode at a first slope during the reset period; and supplying the setup voltage to the sustain electrode at a second slope while the voltage of the scan electrode rises. The method drives the plasma display panel by dividing a pulse into a reset period, an address period and a sustain period. And, the plasma display panel is provided with the address electrode, the scan electrode and the sustain electrode.
