PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ribbon sensing device for a bag tyer for fixing a bundle of collected materials in which the sub-assembly parts of a bag tyer is accurately synchronized during the tyering cycle as long as the device effectively operates. SOLUTION: The ribbon sensing device for a bag tyer comprises a frame having a slot constituting a channel, a shaft fixed to the frame, a stop lever fitted to the shaft for a rotation movement around an axial line, an electric brake provided between the stop lever and the frame, an electric circuit having a timer connected to the electric brake, and an arm or a switch in the electric circuit and positioned extending across the channel. The switch, the timer and the electric brake are connected and constituted so that the stop lever is temporarily locked in a position extending across the channel and materials moving along the slot are collected adjacent to the stop lever.
