PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for an electroluminescent element with excellent flatness and high gas barrier property, without any indentation or pinholes on a surface. SOLUTION: The substrate for an electroluminescent element comprises a transparent substrate 1, a color conversion layer 2 formed on the transparent substrate, a coating layer 3 for flattening applied on the color conversion layer, and a gas barrier layer 4 made of an evaporation film formed on the coating layer 3 for flattening.
