The material flow which arises through the release of the bale (2) is supplied to a delivery and collecting worm (5) where the portions of material intended for further processing are sucked out of the worm and forwarded whilst the foreign bodies and other impurities which are entrained along are brought together in the worm and diverted off at the outlet therefrom. The pressed bale is released through an impact roller. The intensity of the suction air and material stream can be controlled by changing the position of the suction unit (4) relative to the worm.
