<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to easily perform the channel selection operation of an external receiver by switching an input to video and audio signals outputted from the external receiver connected to a display device, by performing the channel selecting operation of the display device even if the user does not switch the input of the display device, and further by performing the channel selecting operation of the external receiver. <P>SOLUTION: The external receiver is provided with a means for transmitting a specific message to a television in such a case that the display device receives a request of selecting a specific channel from the user, when a video output from a tuner incorporated into the television is displayed and a channel selecting section of the television selects a specified channel.
