1,094,844. Air cushion vehicles. BERTIN & CIE. Dec. 7, 1964 [Dec. 6, 1963; May 12, 1964], No. 37167/67. Divided out of 1,094,842. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle has a diaphragm 22a forming in part the upper boundary and in part the lateral boundary of the cushion (i.e. a flexible skirt), and a load-carrying platform 1 which has means for supplying air to the cushion. As shown, the platform is suspended by the diaphragm, but in another embodiment (Fig. 9C, not shown) the upper part of the diaphragm is partially collapsed by the weight on it and the platform rests, in part, on the collapsed part. The cushion is supplied by an ejector 4, 4a supplied through a control valve from a compressor on another vehicle used to propel the air cushion vehicle. The diaphragm may be stiffened by inflatable ribs (22b, Figs. 8A, 8B, not shown, or 28, Fig. 9B, not shown), and may have inflatable bags 21. The vehicle is parachuted from an aircraft and the cushion inflated on or immediately before landing as described in Specification 1,094,842. |
