PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact ion generating device with small power consumption capable of changing operation modes with a simple structure. SOLUTION: In an operation mode of generating minus ion and plus ion in the ion generating device, a switching circuit 3 induces alternating current voltage E having plus and minus components in a secondary winding 23 in response to a timing signal P1. In an operation mode of generating minus ion, switching circuits 3, 4 induce alternating current voltage E having mainly a minus component in the secondary wiring 23 in response to timing signals P1, P2. An ion generating element 6 produces minus ion when the alternating current voltage E induced is minus, and produces plus ion when the alternating current voltage E is plus. Therefore, a mechanical relay is not needed, and changeover of operation modes is made possible with a simple structure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
