PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively suppress the wear of a metal belt and a conical disk. SOLUTION: Pulley sheave surfaces 1C, 1D, 2C, 2D in a pair of conical disks 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B for composing a variable pulley are formed by continuously changing hardness from the inner-diameter end having high hardness to the outer-diameter end having low hardness. Additionally, the pulley sheave surfaces 1C, 1D, 2C, 2D are formed by continuously changing surface roughness from the inner-diameter end having small surface roughness to the outer-diameter end having large surface roughness. Further, the pulley sheave surfaces 1C, 1D, 2C, 2D press a vanishing roller to the pulley sheave surfaces 1C, 1D, 2C, 2D of conical disks 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B in a rotary state, maximizes the pressing load at the inner-diameter end of the pulley sheave surfaces 1C, 1D, 2C, 2D, continuously decreases the pressing load from the inner-diameter end to the outer-diameter end, and minimizes it at the outer-diameter end.
