POINT SUPERABRASIVE MACHINING PROCESS AND ITS TOOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool with long life and a high-speed and economical machining process for machining complicated shapes of components. SOLUTION: The process for point superabrasive machining of a nickel based material comprises the steps of: providing a tool 10 having a grinding surface coated with an abrasive grain material 28; orienting the tool 10 relative to a surface of the nickel based material to be machined such that point contact is created between the surface to be machined and the grinding surface; and forming a component by removing the material at the point contact by rotating the tool 10. The tool 10 comprises an enlarged portion 12, a tip portion 14, and a first shaft portion 16 extending from the enlarged portion 12 to the tip portion 14.
