Disclosed is a synthetic zeolite by means of which gas streams containing steam and carbon dioxide as impurities can be purified. The zeolitic adsorbi ng agent is a 13X type or LSX type faujasite or a mixture of both types that ar e deformed with a binder, at least some parts of which are highly dispersed. Said novel adsorption system allows extraordinarily high adsorption capaciti es to be obtained while keeping the mass transfer zones short, resulting in a longer service life of the adsorption systems before carbon dioxide is able to break through.
