<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that detecting for a road surface condition is unable to process in real time due to the requirement that a vertical polarizing filter and a horizontal polarizing filter are set alternately to the front surface of a TV camera. <P>SOLUTION: A process discriminating the road surface condition (a dryness state or a wetness state) is carried out by targeting one frame of composite image P31 produced by alternately arranging each raster of a vertical polarized image P11 and a horizontal polarized image P21 that are simultaneously image-formed at an even raster and an odd raster. As a result of this, the road surface condition can be detected in real time and therewith reducing a processing load can be done and the speedup of the processing is realized. The composite image P31 is converted into a frequency space, and the road surface condition can be detected with high accuracy due to discrimination of the change degrees of the strength of a vertical polarized component and the strength of a horizontal polarized component in the same frequency space. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
