PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a control method therefor, which can surely prevent an inadvertent document disclosure and an inadvertent leak of secret information from being caused because document contents are accidentally printed on ordinary paper and dedicated paper with a damaged tag. SOLUTION: In a paper feeding tray 10, firstly, the presence or absence of paper 100 with the imparted tag is checked by a sensor A; after that, tag information is directly read from the paper 100 to be carried, on a carrying passage for the paper 100 to be carried from the tray 10 to a printing part 20 so that printing can be done; and when the paper with the imparted tag exists on the tray 10 and when the tag information can be normally read from the paper 100 to be carried from the tray 10 to the printing part 20, the printing of the desired document contents onto the paper 100 in the printing part 20 is permitted.
