PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To substantially increase an electron beam spot diameter on a phosphor screen surface, and to especially reduce moire at the periphery section of the phosphor screen surface. SOLUTION: During one horizontal deflection period, electron beams 11 are scanned so that the position of a collision point in the electron beams 11 on the phosphor screen surface 8 periodically moves in a direction nearly orthogonally crossing a scanning line. Control is made so that the degree of reciprocating movement of the electron beams 11 in the direction orthogonally crossing the scanning line is gradually increased with an increase in the deflection angle of the electron beams 11 from the center of the phosphor screen surface 8.
