1529088 Pistons DANA CORP 11 May 1976 [14 May 1975] 19286/76 Heading F2T A piston assembly comprises a connecting rod 14; a wrist pin 13 carried by or integral with the connecting rod 14; a piston head 11 having first bearing surfaces 23 engaged with the wrist pin 13; and a skirt 12 having bearing surfaces 36 engaged with second bearing surfaces 24 of the head 11, such that the piston head 11 and the skirt 12 can oscillate relative to each other about the axis of the wrist pin 13. The embodiments show the head 11 with a cylindrical portion 22 depending therefrom; the skirt 12 is in bearing relation with the outer surface 24 of the cylindrical portion 22, either directly as in Fig. 5 (not shown) or via bearing inserts 32 as in Fig. 1, while the wrist pin 13, which may be integral with the connecting rod 14 as in Fig. 5 (not shown) or bolted to it as in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 (not shown), pivots in the bore 23 of the cylindrical portion 22. Lubrication of the pivoting surfaces is provided by oil passing through the connecting rod 14, as shown in either Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 (not shown) or Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). The arrangement is said to reduce the deflection of the wrist pin. |
