PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the number of printable sheets by providing even an option cassette additionally with a waste ink absorber thereby increasing the allowable quantity of waste ink. SOLUTION: In an ink jet recorder comprising an ink jet recorder body provided with a section for collecting waste liquid, i.e. liquid being used when a record image is formed by an ink jet head and are not utilized for forming the record image, and one or a plurality of option cassette sections provided with a waste liquid collecting section engaging arbitrarily and removably with the ink jet recorder body, waste liquid is collected by selecting the waste liquid collecting section attached to the ink jet recorder body, and the waste liquid collecting section attached to the option cassette.
