DNA AND PROTEIN CONTROLLING NUMBER OR SIZE OF PLASTID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene which changes the number and size of plastids in a plant cell, and to provide a protein encoded in the gene.

SOLUTION: The DNA used for controlling the number and size of the plastids in the plant cell is a DNA encoding ARC3 protein which is originated from Arabidopsis thaliana and is a protein comprising an amino acid sequence represented by a specific sequence. The gene is utilized to provide a plant having an improved photosynthesizing ability and an improved petal color.
