PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for driving plasma display panel capable of improving picture quality by suppressing pattern-like noises caused by error diffusion. SOLUTION: The system for driving plasma display panel is provided with a means 64 for determining whether an input gradation value can be displayed or not, a means 62 for calculating the error value between the gradation value and a gradation value adjacent to the same, in the case that the input gradation value can not be displayed, means 66, 68, 70, 72 for diffusing the error value to adjacent pixels, means 74, 76, 78, 80 for multiplying the error values outputted from the respective diffusion means by respective coefficient values, a means 82 for adding the multiplied values by themselves, a means 84 for adding the added value to a subsequent input gradation value and a random value producing means 86 for producing a random value supplied to the multiplying means. Further, by changing the coefficient value at random by using the random value, the occurrence of the pattern-like noise is prevented and the improvement of picture quality is achieved.
