PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically inspect even a beverage can of which the internal state cannot be grasped from the outside, in order to detect whether a foreign matter is mixed in the can. SOLUTION: In a beverage manufacturing line, a sound-collecting device 16, such as microphone or the like for collecting sounds emitted from the beverage can 12 during reversal, is arranged in the vicinity of a twister 14 for reversing the beverage can 12 being a container up and down. The sound collected by the sound-collecting device 16 is inputted to a sound wave analyzer 18, having a microcomputer built therein. The sound, emitted from the beverage can 12 during its reversal, is monitored by the sound wave analyzer 18 and, when the magnitude or frequency component of the sound is different from that of the sound at normal times, that foreign matter is present in the beverage can 12 can be decided. That is, if foreign matter is mixed in the beverage can 12, since the foreign matter will come into contact with the inner wall of the beverage can 12 at reversal of the can to emit a sound, by detecting this sound the presence of the foreign matter can be decided.
