PURPOSE: A device for detecting a pad in a home PNA(Phone-line Network Alliance)-based data transmission system and a device therefor are provided to detect whether a pad is inserted, thereby calculating an exact length of a transmission frame and securing a minimal length of the transmission frame. CONSTITUTION: A transmission speed extractor(110) extracts transmission speed information of a receiving frame. A frame buffer(120) stores the receiving frame according to transmission speed extracted by the transmission speed extractor(110). A pad length determiner(130) determines the most significant byte of the frame buffer(120) as a pad length when an EOF(End Of File) signal is active. A counter(140) generates an address for accessing data of the frame buffer(120). A pad detector(150) checks the data of the frame buffer(120) as much as the pad length, decides that a pad is inserted if a CRC16 detection signal is inactive, and activates a pad detection signal.
