PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope wherein a curved posture of a curved portion can be maintained and released at anytime by locking an angle wire at a proximal end position of the curved portion even when the angle wire is broken. SOLUTION: An outer ring 50 and an inner ring 52 are disposed at the proximal end position of the curved portion 18. The outer ring 50 is fixed to a proximal end sleeve 48, wherein a semicircular groove 50A is formed at the position where the angle wire 38 is inserted on an inner peripheral surface. The inner ring 52 is slidably disposed on the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring 50, wherein a semicircular groove 52A is formed at the position of the angle wire 38 on the outer peripheral surface. The angle wire 38 is inserted in a round hole formed of the groove 50A and the groove 52A, and is caught and locked between the groove 50A and the groove 52A when the inner ring 52 is turned.
