<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a photocatalyst by which a gas containing volatile organic matter, for example, acetaldehyde can be purified by decomposing acetaldehyde at a high rate, and to produce the photocatalyst and to provide an apparatus for purifying the gas. <P>SOLUTION: The photocatalyst is manufactured by depositing a metallic compound on a titania-deposited carrier, reducing the deposited metallic compound with hydrogen at the first treatment temperature and oxidizing the reduced metallic compound at the second treatment temperature lower than the first treatment temperature. As a result, since the deposited metal is distributed widely on this photocatalyst in a finely particulate state and can be released from an extremely strongly reduced state, the catalytic activity of this photocatalyst can be made high. When the gas is purified while applying light and heat, for example, black light to this photocatalyst, the volatile organic matter can be decomposed at the high rate by the photocatalysis in cooperation with the thermo-catalysis. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
