PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation transmission mechanism for gearing the rotation of a rotary ring in only a specified rotational phase to a driven member, compatibly attaining miniaturization and highly accurate drive. SOLUTION: The rotation transmission mechanism comprises a rotary ring having a gear portion and a rotation transmitting gear having a gear portion and a sectionally non-circular rotation restricting portion positioned differently in the direction of a rotating shaft. The rotary ring and the rotation transmitting gear are relatively movable in a direction including a component in the direction of the rotating shaft of the rotation transmitting gear. The gear portion of the rotary ring meshes with the gear portion of the rotation transmitting gear at a given relative position and the gear portion of the rotary ring is opposed to the rotation restricting portion at another relative position to restrict the rotation of the rotation transmitting gear.
