PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic resin composition having excellent impact resistance, fluidity, moldability and gloss and high weld strength and provide a method for the production of the resin composition. SOLUTION: The method for the production of the thermoplastic resin composition comprises (1) an impregnation step to impregnate 20-60 mass% monomer component containing 0-18 mass% vinyl cyanide monomer and an aromatic vinyl monomer in 40-80 mass% rubbery polymer having a gel content of 50-98 mass% and an average particle diameter of 100-550 nm, (2) a polymerization step to perform graft polymerization of the monomer component to the rubbery polymer in a manner to give a mass-average molecular weight of 50,000-200,000 of the monomer component grafted to the rubbery polymer and form a rubber-reinforced styrene resin (A), and (3) a compounding step to compound 1-50 mass% rubber-reinforced styrene resin (A), 30-94 mass% polycarbonate resin (B) and 5-60 mass% high-impact polystyrene resin (C).
