An absorbent easily rendered three-dimensional in the central region by water absorption is composed of a sheet-like absorbent having regions where a highly absorptive component is present and regions where it is absent, these presence and absence regions parallelly extending lengthwise of a sheet-like base material and alternating with each other, the sheet-like base material being turned back along a bending line in the highly absorptive component absence regions of the sheet-like absorbent, there being at least one band-like portion of multilayer construction where the highly absorptive component presence regions are superposed in a plurality of layers. <IMAGE>
