Iron based parts, wherein the surface of an iron or an iron base alloy material is coated with a nickel layer containing carbon or a nickel layer containing carbon and phosphorus, the iron or iron base alloy material has a nickel diffusion layer formed therein whose nickel content decreases toward the deep portion thereof, and further the nickel diffusion layer contains carbon at least in the surface layer thereof. Those iron parts exhibits excellent sliding adaptivity and corrosion resistance and also, in particular, has the hardness distribution being suitably adjusted, in the portion adjacent to its surface.
