<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit slip of a friction element of an automatic transmission when a shift lever is changed over to a traveling range position when an inhibitor switch is in an abnormal state. <P>SOLUTION: An automatic transmission comprises an inhibitor switch 16, and a control unit 9 having a range position determination means to determine the range position based on the ON/OFF pattern of the switch at a regular range position and the ON/OFF pattern of the switch at an intermediate range position from the detected range position signal, and a hydraulic control means to control the hydraulic pressure based on the result of determination of the range position. The automatic transmission has a clocking means 9 to clock the time duration of determining the intermediate range position. Further, the hydraulic pressure control means controls the hydraulic pressure of the automatic transmission as a non-running range position if the time duration for determining the determined intermediate range position is shorter than a predetermined value when the regular range position immediately before is at the non-running range position, and controls the hydraulic pressure as a running range position if the time for determining the intermediate range position is not less than the predetermined value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
