<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emitting means which can be operated more stably. <P>SOLUTION: The electron emitter comprises a PN junction 12, a conductive layer 32, and a dielectric layer 30 interposed between the PN junction 12 and the conductive layer 32, and the PN junction 12 has a nearly flat surface, and the conductive layer 32 covers the nearly flat surface of the PN junction 12. The method of electron emission includes a step in which a voltage is impressed on the electron source 12 and the electron source 12 is made to generate thermoelectrons, and a step in which an electric field is impressed and at least a part of thermoelectrons is emitted from the electron source 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
