PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type color liquid crystal device which can display brighter and sharper colors than a conventional device by using a liquid crystal mode which uses a polarizing plate. SOLUTION: Color filters 107 and counter electrodes (scanning lines) 108 are formed on a counter substrate 102, and an upper polarizing plate 101 is disposed in the observation side. Signal lines 109, pixel electrodes 110 and MIM elements 111 are formed on a device substrate 104, and a lower polarizing plate 105 and a scattering and reflecting plate 106 are disposed under the substrate 104. The space between the substrates is filled with a nematic liquid crystal 103 having 90 deg. twist angle. As for the color filters 107, red filters R and cyan filters C are used and both of the filters show >=70% average transmittance for light in the wavelength range from 450 to 660 nm. |
